Faculty - Pediatric Cardiologist: Heart Failure/Transplant

Children’s Nebraska, in partnership with the University of Nebraska College of Medicine (UNMC), is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Pediatric Cardiologist to join our Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Team at the assistant or associate professor level. Candidates with advanced fellowship training in Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Transplantation are encouraged to apply. Position Overview

The successful candidate will join an established Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Team comprised of:

• 2 Cardiologists
• 3 Advanced Practice Provider Coordinators
• 1 Nurse Coordinator
• 1 Heart Failure Nurse
• 3 Cardiothoracic Surgeons
• 2 Pharmacists
• 2 Dietitian
• 1 Social Worker
• 1 Dedicated Clinical Psychologist

Our team provides comprehensive care to children with varying types and severities of heart failure throughout Nebraska and the Midwest. The transplant program, established in 2013, averages approximately 5-10 transplants annually and is accredited by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Pediatric VAD program offers both durable and temporary support devices, with an average of 3-5 VAD implants annually. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the clinical base while expanding innovation and academic components within the division. Additionally, research opportunities and collaboration with the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI) are available, which offers start-up funding and infrastructure for clinical, basic science, and translational research.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care to children with acquired or inherited cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and pre- and post-transplant patients.
• Co-manage care in a dedicated Cardiac ICU and collaborate with cardiologists on the general stepdown inpatient service.
• Engage in teaching opportunities with medical students, residents, and Pediatric Cardiology fellows.

Qualifications

• Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.
• Advanced fellowship training in Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Transplantation.
• Commitment to strong emotional and social intelligence.

About the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Heart Center

The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Heart Center at Children’s Nebraska provides care for patients of all ages, with complete and comprehensive cardiac subspecialty care. The Heart Center includes 29 pediatric cardiology faculty members, 3 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, 10 pediatric cardiac intensivists, 6 pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, and a highly skilled group of nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Our Cardiac Care Unit employs a “door to door” acuity-adaptable care model, ensuring comprehensive care for cardiac patients from admission to discharge. The Heart Center is also a certified Aetna Institute of Excellence for pediatric congenital heart surgery.
